Please Throw Your Trash Away
So during our last trip to Pittsburgh, Maura learned a new trick: throwing away the trash for us. She will bring items to the garbage can and put them in. If there's a closet for the garbage, she'll close the door. Its definitely entertaining, however we have had a couple of interesting events.
While in Pittsburgh, Maura was running around and we were giving her a little space, not hovering. Grampa saw her throw something away and praise her with encouragement. Shortly thereafter, Lori asked where Maura's diaper was. She had apparently removed and threw away her diaper!
This evening, I was giving Lori some of my pocket cash and Maura thought it looked like fun. She sat down and played with the money and brought some of it into the kitchen. When she returned empty handed, I thought I could ask her to go bring it to Daddy. Lori followed her and said, "The money is gone. How could it have disappeared?" Can you believe that we actually checked and found $12 in the trash!!

My Brother is Geekier than Me!
| You are 23% geek | |
![]() | OK, so maybe you ain't a geek. You do, at least, show a bit of interest in the world around you. Either that, or you have enough of a sense of humor to pick some of the sillier answers on the test. Regardless, you're probably a pretty nifty, well-rounded person who gets along fine with people and can chat with just about anyone without fear of looking stupid or foolish or overly concerned with minutia. God, I hate you. |
I retested
| You are 31% geek | |
![]() | You are a geek liason, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.

You probably work in computers, or a history deptartment at a college. You never really fit in with the "normal" crowd. But you have friends, and this is a good thing.

Don't have much to say.
I don't have a lot to say. What am I thinking about? Work. Houses. Lori. Maura. Morgan's new job. Toys. Pictures. Knitting. Traffic. Commute Time. Stock Prices. AMT Tax.

Another plane trip...
So we return home today... I got a bit of a sunburn yesterday, so the hugs are bittersweet. Maura is definitely talking and we are just trying to figure out what the words are: "No", "Yeah" ,"That", "Juice", "Ball", "Da", "Belly"(Button), "Toes", "Mmm". The are possibly more: "Kittie", "Cup", and others we haven't deciphered yet. Fingers crossed for the plane trip and the packing (always an adventure for us).
Thanks for picking us up, Morgan. Oh yeah, there's lots of Pictures from our trip if you haven't already found them.

106
So the score was as reflective of the challenge of the course (lots of traps) as much playing. Enough good shots to keep me "enjoying" the game and enough bad as to question whether what I do is "playing golf." Anyway it was a good time and we enjoyed ourselves.
Todays plan is to attend Lori's first-cousin-once-removed's wedding...

Golf Yesterday, Golf Today
A "Rough" front nine, a good start on the back yesterday (2 pars) brought me a 104 yesterday. Today, we will be playing at Olde Stonewall, I don't think it will be as good. Some picture of Maura can be found here.

3 More Days
So apparently my father-in-law has taught my daughter to blow her nose. Not with a tissue mind you, just the blowing part. Clearly the Vermont Heritage predisposes her to a skilled "farmer's blow." It's funny: the whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder" concept. The petty things fade away and the positive experiences are what one relishes.
I was driving home from picking up McDonald's this evening thinking about how Maura will hug me around the neck, or hug my leg. Just then, I passed a man pushing his son in a stroller. He seem frustrated with the squirming unsatisfied boy. I thought to myself that a day or two of absence and he would look back on that walk fondly.
Something makes me think this is the kind of thinking that helps us understand what's really important.
-ps. I did make it to the party last night... I kept myself hydrated and avoided the hangover... And even won a few games of pong (apparently some call the game "Beirut"). And there was something about "Gold Bond Powder"

Hmmmm, Grubby...
So, bachelorness is going alright so far. I haven't used the wrong dish detergent in the machine (and it has been run.) Having the whole bed to myself, I slept in (til 8:30) and find myself enjoying having nothing to do.
Of course, I got to hear Maura on the phone this morning, and its hard not to miss them. Of course she sounds happy and cute. I'm sure her grand-parents are enjoying the visit. I'm hoping to get a haircut and hit the driving range today. Maybe take in a movie. And rumor has it there's going to be party tonight. I'm not sure if my old bones can handle it, but maybe I'll give it a shot.

Bachelor for a week
So Lori and Maura headed to da 'Burgh this morning. Visiting either of the grandparents can be a much-enjoyed break for the parents (especially Lori). But the traveling part of the experience can be a bit trying.
Maura tends to sleep from 7:30pm to 7:30am (during the week). Of course the weekends, she seems to get up at 6am! And this morning (travel day), she decides to get up at 4am and again at 5am. So, sensing the subtle anxiety of my wife, I took Maura downstairs for an Elmo Marathon and some breakfast. Lori took the second shift and I got a quick nap in.
The drive to the airport, not even JFK or LaGuardia, was fraught with road construction and challenging back roads. Even the escalators were under construction at the airport!
Well, Maura was well-behaved if not entertaining (yet still a handful) on the plane, and everyone arrived safely. Can you believe Lori considering driving solo to Pittsburgh today (with possible stopover halfway)?!
Take lots of good pictures... Daddy misses you both.

Audrey Feng Simon
Maura is looking forward to meeting her new friend. Audrey was born on the 4th of July. Its always fun to welcome friends to parenthood. Bob, Ann, good luck, its lots of fun! The first few days are the hardest, try to remember them, because you won't believe that she was this small.
Enjoy some pictures.

Sniffling, Coughin, Puking
My poor daughter. I'm not entirely sure the real cause, but somewhere between the heat, air conditioning, and teething, Maura has had a rough couple of days. Unfortunately the drainage is mucous and she coughs on it and has puked in her crib 3 times in the last couple of days. Its really gross. But its amazing what gross-ness one can tolerated when it comes to the comfort of one's child.
When she's awake, she's very pleasant. I think she has a decent threshold for discomfort. I'm proud even though I don't want her to be uncomfortable.

Maura's First Newspaper Appearance
![]()
As any proud father would, I bring you the first picture of my daughter in the newspaper, we have real copies for Grandparents and other interested family members, but I have included a stitched-together scan of the "Life Times" section of the Darien Times newspaper.
Of course, I'm reminded of a story one of our college friends once told of her parents transplanted in Long Island. They, apparently, decided to move back to Eastern PA the day their oldest daughter came home from school speaking with a Long Island accent.
I'm faced with a newspaper glorifying the "materialism" of my 14 month old daughter in an advertisement disguised as journalism and balancing that with the pride of my family that has me showing the paper to strangers on the street.
How Bitter Sweet... (If you are really bold there's a very large image here.)

Happy 4th of July
I really don't have much to say. We have plans to meet for a BBQ at the Cove and then have dinner with friends and their family. I fear my wife may be feature in a snotty newspaper article (more info to follow).
