She says "Bye"

So Lori went to a Bridal Shower today. I stayed home with Maura. It was fun, she and I wrestled. I'd sit on the floor and she'd climb onto my back, and laugh. She's never done that before, and I liked it. She was giving hugs and kisses and giggling. I think she even started roaring or growling. When Lori got home, and Maura woke up from her afternoon nap, the 2 of them went for a little walk outside to get reacquainted. When they returned and headed up for a bath, Maura shouted from the stairs, "Bye!"

User Interface Failure: winlogon.exe - Application Error

I really like Windows XP, but I'm getting this error: "User Interface Failure: winlogon.exe x10039bfe" when I try to connect to my work machine. I'd really like this to go away! Any suggestions

Okay... In case people got here from GOOGLE. Let me tell you how I fixed it... Turns out I installed a CISCO Wireless ACU software (which we use at work to enable LEAP Authentication with 802.11b) which appparently does not currently play nice with windows XP. I ended up using System Restore Points to get back to a working condition. I hear that uninstalling the ACU will also work

Lori was up $115 (Blackjack), I was down $140 (Craps)... Dinner was excellent (Surf & Turf) and Lori had Crab Legs, Maura had pasta...

Thanks to Morgan & Nora for babysitting... Have fun on the Cape!

An Evening with Friends

So as the final part of my Birthday Celebration, I'm meeting friends for dinner at Foxwoods Casino in south eastern Connecticut. This group of High School friends go way back. Two of the guys, I went to nursery school with. The others became close friends throughout High School. Its ironic that we are so bad about keeping in touch, but when we get together, its a lot like old times. Of course I am the master at reminiscing, I think it drives everyone crazy. Two more are married. I'm the only one with child so far...

By the way, We'll be accompanied by my little brother (who we occasionally refer to as Ermin).

Happy Birthday to Me

So my Birthday yesterday was nice. I went home slightly early from work. Spent some time with Lori and Maura. Had Shrimp with my brother and some friends. Wonderful gifts included a TV Tuner Card for the PC, MP3 CD Player for Car, and a night of dinner, friends, and wagering at FoxWoods.

Wedding in VT

So we arrive in Manchester Center at the Wilburton Inn. A Wonderful place with some strange sculptures everywhere. Including the "Pharaohs", but now renamed "Patriarchal Family" (Pictured above). The wedding was great, and I found myself at the table that I like to call the "FactSet" quitters... I was the only current employee (a hint from the Klemmers?). Anyway it was good to see people and I even led a requisite DU-style "YMCA" dance. Something about the mother of the bride pelvic thrusting that makes things a little weird.

So we also got to visit the baby ducks in Ravena, NY at my parents apartment.

Anyway, today is fathers day and tomorrow is the 30th Anniversary of the Watergate break-in. Talk to you then.

Video Games for $9.99 per Month

I don't get to play Nintendo 64 very much anymore, but I have been curious about the XBox. I have a love/hate relationship with Microsoft, but the broadband, just enough converge, etc... is very tempting. BlockBuster may just push me over the edge. For $19.99, I can rent 2 games for a month (which is about my limit anyway...) I'm not quite sure what limited time only really implies, but oh well...

Let me count the ways

Lori went to the movies with friends tonight (Ya-Ya Sisterhood)... {If it looks like a cult...} Anyway, I was left to finish bathing, dressing, playing and putting Miss Maura to sleep this evening. The bath was fun. We played with cups, pouring water and splashing. After an uneventful diapering and dressing we went downstairs and played with 5 pieces of Mail (including a Publishers Clearing House letter) for a half an hour! C'mon, this girl has more stuff than we can fit, and its 5 letters that occupy her attention. I used to joke about just getting her boxes for gifts....

Anyway, we read a few stories, drank some milk, and she went to bed. This process has gotten much better recently. In fact, this evening, I layed her down in her crib, nearly wide awake, and she hasn't made a peep. {knock, knock}

Good night!

Up and Running with Windows XP

So I replaced the old 40 gig (Fujitsu) drive with a new 80 gig (Maxtor) drive from Costco. I also took the opportunity to install Windows XP. So far I like it:

Hopefully I'll get Lori to test it out and tell us what she thinks...

Uh Oh! Hard Drive Crash

So I get home yesterday to see the computer screen with the simple grey letters "Operating System Not Found." Oh great... Lori's clearly not thrilled, we do have a "backup." But what I'm more bummed about is all the saved email, all the saved pictures, and all the crap that I haven't remembered that I will miss. I don't think I've ever had a Hard Drive crash on my machine. It was always something that happened to somebody else. Particularly not on a machine that's just a year old. I wonder if it will be cost effective to try and get anything off of it.

Off to Costco today to get a new drive... Maybe I'll pick up XP too...

Birthday Results

Birkenstocks and a DVD Player(which plays MP3's, JPEGS, MPEGS, DVDs, CD(R(W))s, DVD((+-)R(W)),etc...) I think she liked it all. Although I have to improved my gift hiding techniques....

Running Errands

"Running Errands" three days before your wife's birthday generally isn't subtle. Picking gifts for my wife is very difficult. When you add my frugalness (read cheapness) to my natural male sensitivities to an upbringing that encourage toys (gadgets, gizmos, learning stuff, etc...) a lot of the stereotypical female gifts are hard for me to purchase. I think I did all right this year, a little thoughtful, and a little fun. I'll let you know on ThursdayTuesday!.

Oh yeah, thanks to Gary (father-in-law) for a wonderful meal at the Golf Course (City Course, not Country Club) resteraunt, which is very nice. Maura was an angel and really recommends the cheese ravioli.
